What is the mentoring program? How do I find a mentor for my first Conference?
If you are a first-time participant, a mentor will be assigned to you automatically when you register for the Conference. The mentors are Networking Committee members and/or experienced CMG Chairholders and members who are on hand to guide you through your first Conference. You will receive a phone call or e-mail from your mentor in advance of the Conference to answer any questions. He or she will also arrange to meet with you during the Conference. If you do not hear from your mentor one week in advance of the Conference, please contact the Chairman of the New Member Training Committee, John West, CMG, at 412.217.1234 or Sharon Griffis, Director at 703.647.4730.
What should I expect when I arrive? Where do I go? Once you have checked into the hotel, eport the CMG Registration Desk. CMG Registration desk opens on Friday afternoon at 5:00 pm. Other opening times are published in the Conference Program which you will receive in your registration packet. CMG staff are on hand to review your conference materials with you, answer any questions you may have and orient you to the hotel.
What materials will I receive when I sign in at the registration table? You will receive an envelope that contains your name badge and conference ribbon denoting that you are a first time participant.
It also contains a program that lists in detail all of the events, times and locations for the entire Conference. This guide tells you where to be and when to get there. A limited number of Conference programs are available, so don't lose the one given to you. A complete schedule of events is posted at the CMG Registration desk.
If you registered for optional events, you will have a ticket for that event in your packet. You must bring this ticket with you to the event in order to participate - be sure you have tickets for all of the optional events you enrolled in. Additionally, there are tickets for complimentary beverages at receptions.
I noticed the name badges are color-coded. What do the colors signify? The name badges come in three colors: red denotes a first-time Conference participant, gray denotes a returning CMG member and a purple badge signifies a member holding Chairholder status.
Additionally, there are ribbons attached to the badges: blue ribbons denote Board Members, neon green ribbons signify Networking Committee members, etc. The ribbons are labeled with the notation titles.
What can I expect to do at the Conference? After registering we encourage you to take some time to review the Conference program. Many members find it helpful to highlight their personal schedule in the program.
Your mentor will provide a full explanation of Sunday and Monday workshop but if you have any questions please contact Charon Griffis sgriffis@colormarketing.org 703.647.4730.
Schedule of Events
What should I wear to the meetings, dinners and receptions? Dress for CMG Conferences is business casual. Remember to pack appropriately for the region and season. For instance, some events are held off-site and may require comfortable shoes for walking. Large conference rooms differ as to climate control and a light sweater that can be added or removed may be useful. We have had Conferences in the desert, in the Northern US and Canada, and areas in between.
I want to be introduced to a particular member. How can I make this happen?
Simply ask a Networking Committee member or your mentor and he or she will find an opportunity to make the introduction. Remember if you fail to connect with a particular member you may use CMG's online member directory to locate the person with whom you wish to connect.
I noticed there are many CMG committees. How can I find out more? When am I eligible to join? How do I join?
Becoming a member of a committee can greatly enhance your CMG experience and there are a number of opportunities that vary in function and commitment. A listing of each committee can be found on the CMG web site. For more information on joining a committee please call Member Relations on 703.647.4730.
I noticed some members with the designation "Facilitator" or "Co-Facilitator". What does this mean? How can I facilitate?
Facilitating a Workshop is one of the best ways to fully understand the color forecasting process. Members who have no previous experience of facilitating in the past are encouraged to co-facilitate initially. It is recommended that you participate in at least one Conference before volunteering to be a Co-Facilitator. More information can be gathered by contacting the Chairman or Vice Chairmen of the Committee (committee lists can be found on the web site) or by asking your mentor.
How can I get a copy of the Conference Participant List?
A full list of the Conference Participants will be posted to the CMG web site close to the date of the Conference. Additionally, the list will be e-mailed to you before the start of the Conference
If I have further questions during the Conference, who should I ask?
Look for someone wearing the neon green Networking ribbon. He or she will be happy to answer your questions. Additionally, Committee Chairmen, Board Members (blue ribbon), Chairholders (purple badge holder) and/or a member of the CMG staff would also be happy to assist you.
Alternatively, please contact CMG Member Relations who will be happy to answer any additional questions that you have. 703.647.4730.
