Connection – our 2024+ Asia Pacific Key Color

Connected online, connected through culture and history, connected with family and friends. “Connected” is an objective and goal for living.

A familiar feeling, red-influenced, medium chroma blue, has emerged that conveys links between the virtual world and the analog world. The aptly named Connection is a color symbol of new innovations. It is the metaverse and technological advancements come to life in a hue that feels balanced and well-proportioned, and feels as comfortable as relationships new and old.

Need a bit of an escape into a virtual world? Perhaps an immersive moment in nature is just the tonic to soothe frazzled nerves. Either way, Connection is a blue of familiarity, comfort, and trust. A key color for CMG Asia Pacific, it emerges on schedule in 2024 offering the energy of tech, buzzing with its blueness, and remains the proverbial color bond to sky and sea in nature.

Breaking away from day-to-day routines becomes easier with a blue that can fill a space with its style and modernity. Whether on the walls, ceiling, or perhaps all, it wraps a space with a color that instantly unites space and inhabitants. Connection is relaxed, inviting, and comfortable. Not only for residential interiors, commercial interiors will benefit from a blue that coordinates with classic corporate colors as well as bringing a bolder touch of nature into play.

Its ability to act as a connector holds true when used in visual communications and design prints. It’s a cool, clean balance with brown and beige, a natural progression with leafy greens and aqua, and then turns its tech side on with acid yellow, orange, and metallics. It can also be enhanced with special effects or dramatic shifts in sheen from matte to high gloss.

Whether in a virtual realm or right outside the door; escape, immerse, enjoy … and get Connected.

FEBRUARY COLOR ALERT®

Jolt • Energy • Visceral

Azoic – our 2024+ North American Key Color

With a colorful jolt, Azoic brings high chroma color to life in ways that appeal naturally, mentally, and physically. This green-based yellow, considered the 2024 Key Color for the North American region, redefines what it means to think of yellow.

As a color from nature, it is reminiscent of sulphur-laden hot springs, rich in minerals and earth deposits. Often seen along lake banks, it’s a natural accent color for home décor and accessories. It has energy that seems to bubble just beneath the surface and when used as an accent color to warm grey, dark blue, plum, or brown, it transfers its energy to those more laid back hues. It will add excitement to prints,  and make lacquered and glass items glow. Of course, textiles, rugs, and wall finishes will also benefit from its powerful color in varied materials from wool to satin. It also takes on sheen levels with passion as matte, velvety looks suggest its earthier side, and high gloss finishes reveal its bold light and powerful presence.

Some of that presence can be laid to the color’s roots in the brains’ visceral motor systems. Azoic is color rendered in charge of the flight or fight response that, either way, is full of action and purpose. It has an immediate, almost gut-punch response when viewed, but in a good way. Azoic is not a color to sit back and wait for things to happen. It IS what’s happening, no matter where it is used. For fashion and accessories, it will, again, benefit from various finishes and sheen levels, and could also have special effects. Shoes and bags, both sport and dress, will seemingly transform when Azoic has a color-shifting effect applied. In addition, the color feels revolutionary when coordinated with clothing in muted colors, or white-to-black neutrals.

And what better way to symbolize energy, and the readiness to take-off, than coating cars, SUVs, and motorcycles with this color. With a nod to the home décor market, vehicles will display sheen levels of this color in high-gloss and matte, with effects used to raise a bit of color hell on the road and in the parking lot. When wrapped in Azoic, vehicles appear to be moving, even when they are standing still.

A color of nature, visceral reactions, and overall power, Azoic is not to be ignored.

JANUARY COLOR ALERT®

Fresh • Versatile • Progressive

Busco! – our 2024+ Latin American Key Color

Start the new year with the fresh light purple that is Busco! Its name, Spanish for “I search” is the perfect combination of color and moniker to begin the venture into 2024.

Full of hope and energy, Busco! was predicted for 2024 in 2022 CMG Latin America meetings and is considered the key color for the region. With its energy and style, however, it is certain to be embraced internationally. A balance of red and blue, is countered by its lightness that lets it rise and feel airy and fresh. It has an underlying warmth that is welcoming, but also cheekily declares, “Stand aside, I’m on a quest!”

That quest has many paths and Busco! is a multi-faceted color, associated with mystical as well as digital imagery. Its light value lets it soar, carrying its uniqueness to new heights as it plays a color game like few others. It is “versed” in style and meaning and could well be embraced as the color of the metaverse. Bold, new, forward, and forever on the search for the new.

Pair it with an acid yellow hue to create an energized color combination, or use it to warm up grey and beige palettes with a touch lilac light. Busco! works with many other hues, such as deep green influenced brown and navy blue. And for an amusing vintage hit, think mod fashion mixing it with orange, hot pink and lime green.

Certain to appear in fashion, as the seasons progress, Busco! will also be an accent color for home interiors, textile prints, and graphic design. It expands whatever “verse” in which it appears and can perform in any of them.

Busco! the color with which to search for the new and exciting in the new year.

DECEMBER COLOR ALERT®

2023 December Color AlertHealing • Regenerative • Pure

End the calendar year with Inspiración!

Blue, pure and simple, what a great way to end one year, and set forth on another. The blue of Inspiración, Spanish for Inspiration, is meant to symbolize the diffusion of light through the healing process. It is reminiscent of the constant flow of water that sustains life. It is also a hue that suggests grace and being grateful for the opportunity to embrace constant change.

Inspiración emerged from Latin America Color Marketing meetings for 2023 to suggest regeneration and the restarting of the world. Its suggestion of fluidity helps carry the message of movement and pushing forward, over and around obstacles. With no influence from other hues, it is a medium chroma, solid, natural-looking, pure blue.

As a color that also suggests the nourishing aspects of water, it is an important color for health and wellness products and spaces. The value and chroma keep it from being pastel, and imbue it with more energy, but the cool nature maintains its calming effect.

Appearing in home décor and furnishings, Inspiración lends itself to residential and commercial environments such as interior home, hospitality, healthcare, office, and retail. Adding the ever-important dose of nature’s constant color to balance the present neutral greys and beiges, it’s an equally successful counterpart to olive green, mustard yellow, and sun-bleached terra cotta. Of course, it stands on its own in paint and textured wallcoverings and can be upfront on walls or peripherally subtle on ceilings. It is also an inviting hue for a welcoming front door. And as “Inspiración is everywhere,” it can be expected to influence fashion and accessories color, as well.

Design and color move forward as the world presses on. Embrace each day with the Inspiración that it holds.

NOVEMBER COLOR ALERT®

2023 November Color Alert

Warm • International • Tactile

Local in inspiration, global in color!

With names like Candy Orange and Optema, these colors can only be positive and upbeat. They are the warming antidote to dark moods and dark skies. Though different in initial inspirations, the hue is the same red influenced yellow with only a bit of value and chroma separating them.

Candy Orange, from Asia Pacific, is a high chroma, rich yellow with an orange aesthetic. It draws its inspirations from natural fibers and wood finishes. The color is warm-hearted and tactile and is desirable for interior spaces in furnishings, wall finishes, textiles, and accessories. Imagine cozying up in a fuzzy upholstered chair in this hue, or dining in surroundings that suggest golden woods, and golden evening skies.

Optema, from North America, is also highly chromatic, with its warm and intense red influence. It is evocative of a completely optimized designed space, one that brings attention and pleasure to the senses. Optema intrigues the eye with its energy and warmth and is a color of deep happiness, neither frivolous nor juvenile. It translates, as well, to interior design, touching on many of the same moods as Candy Orange, and both will expand into consumer goods, fashion, and communications.

With such far flung origins, it is not surprising that these colors are going global, as well. They can be made more “local” with changes in sheen, special effects, or anything else that speaks to regionalized products and lifestyles. Whether the color of a wall or coat, casual shoes or kitchen appliance, Candy Orange and Optema offer a shared sense of warmth and joy.

They can stand alone, but their strong chroma allows them to coordinate beautifully with other powerful hues. Consider combining them with plum, navy, or magenta, or all four together, for a new take on a modern palette. Or create a color story that is woodland focused with deep brown, hunter green, and mushroom white to tell a story of connectivity and eco-consideration.

The global reach of Candy Orange and Optema are also seasonless. The month of November sees the onset of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, and summer below the equator, and these similar colors are celebrations of warmth no matter where they are found and used.

Whether locally or globally, celebrate the colors of Candy Orange and Optema and feel the warmth.

OCTOBER COLOR ALERT®

Trusting • Natural • Contemplative

Find your peace, with Answers

As the world continues to struggle with trust issues, transparency, and a need for independence and personal power, blue is there to help. It is a color of nature, uplifting and true, and is considered a “color friend.” It is a color offering to assuage the concerns of humanity.

That’s a lot for a color to take on, but Answers, a low chroma, clear and soft, red-based blue, attempts to visually restore trust and calm. Its relative lightness counters the dark side of technology, stress and plaintive moods. It does not take over the situation, however. Instead, it is there as a quiet partner, offering stability and serenity.

Discussed, originally, in the Asia Pacific region, to gain importance in 2023, it is appearing on the world stage, and is expected to continue into next year in residential home décor and accessories, architectural coatings, small appliances, and consumer goods. It is likely to transfer to hospitality as well, softening the look of hotel rooms and reception areas with its subtle value.

Initially considered as a translucent color, illuminated as light passes through it, it will be translated to sheer textiles, colored glass and modern plastics, and change its look with metallic effects and glossy sheens. With its translucent aura, Answers takes on an almost spiritual, peaceful air, underscoring its take as a color for trust.

Of course, it is equally uplifting in as a solid hue. For interiors, consider it for furnishings in many different textiles from smooth sateen to fuzzy textures, or a finish on cabinetry and tables. It moves easily from residential bedroom to hotel room as a color respite from the day, whether at home, or on the road. Interior rooms connect to nature with this airy hue and walls and ceilings seem to expand and breathe with this affirming color.

It can serve as a quiet accent with deeper hues such as olive, espresso and burnt red, and is refreshing with white, off-white, tan, and grey. Answers’ ability to add a civilized, comforting color touch to the interior (and sometimes exterior) design-scape makes it an excellent choice for anxious times.

So many color options exist for interior design and décor, and it can be stressful to choose. Fortunately, it is timely, and comforting to have Answers.

SEPTEMBER COLOR ALERT®

Nuanced • Subtle • Global

Embrace a different side of color, it’s a time when feeling a bit “off’ is a good thing!

Much is said about the large world of “off-whites”, and it can often be confusing. To put it simply, they are value and color influenced whites that offers a bit of depth and a positive aspect to this oft maligned “neutral.”

The myriad off-whites emerging in the marketplace are anything but neutral. Every region around the globe is embracing a nuanced version, and in many instances numerous versions are being used together. This is a great rethink of off-white as a color leader.

So, the whites are influenced by everything from pure red and orange to violet and green/yellow. The color nuances may be almost imperceptible as they have minimal chroma, but they are there and offer additional ways of working with these new hues. Place them against a pure white to see the magic of their inner hues. They are very light, with a barely there 10% of black to add depth. What this means is whites, in their “off” sense are moving in new directions, often together.

Bone and Ash, from North America is a low chroma, tinted neutral red suggesting two qualities; the skeletal structure of being in a human body and the ashes that remain after a fire. The former is a framework for rebuilding humanity and the second considers the rebirth of the earth. The future will be built on the combined efforts of humans and nature. Virtual Anima, from Asia Pacific, is a red-tinted yellow displays a luminous and futuristic attitude with roots in digital worlds. While muted, its glossy, pearlescent finish confers that it is a voice that screams for clarity.

Burbujas, Spanish for Bubbles, from Latin America, is a green-based yellow with the effervescence of champagne. It is an off-white as an invitation to revel with happy moments of freshness and joy. It embodies sparkling bubbles in a celebratory toast to a bright future.

Grit, from Europe, is a dim, purple grey with equal blue and red influences, this hue is reminiscent of a hazy day, one that imbues a casual, laid-back appeal that gives no reason to overdress. Not melancholic, but subtle and timeless, it reveals an empty canvas to be sketched, and manifests a hollow space ready to be discovered or re-discovered.

So many inspirations, for so many nuances. It is the inner beauty that makes these hues so powerful. They suggest meaning behind their subtle glance, and seemingly quiet demeanor. They can be used practically anywhere, embrace different sheen levels, special effects and finishes, and are equally comfortable in commercial or residential spaces. Fashion has been “deck-washed” with nuanced white colors from clothing to accessories to personal products and electronics.

These hues are ready to stand side-by-side with stronger colors or band together on their own. They celebrate joy in being a bit “off.”

Introducing our 2025+ Key Colors from Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and North America.

As part of the World Color Forecast™ presented at this week’s CMG Summit Reveal, we announced the Key Colors for 2025. Four global regions, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America, each identified the Key Color from their 16 forecasted colors. The selection of the Key Color is based on the color direction of the Forecast, the importance of the color family to the Forecast, the significance of the specific color to the color direction and how the color best represents the Color Stories.

CMG 2025+ Asia Pacific Key Color – Explore

Explore is a fascinating low chroma, rich, warm, near-black red, adorned with subtle hints of blue. This unique hue holds immense significance as it encompasses multiple facets of personal and collective growth. Its profound association with blending recycled materials epitomizes sustainability and environmental consciousness, reflecting a mindful approach to living.

Moreover, the color’s representation of a deep meditative state of mind adds to its allure, hinting at the potential for introspection and self-discovery.

In this fast-paced world, Explore serves as a counterbalance to the fast-paced world, encouraging individuals to pause, reflect, rediscover themselves and embark on a transformative journey towards better living and meaningful experiences.

The rich, warm tone of Explore evokes a sense of genuine self-assessment and exploration, inviting people to embrace and cultivate their artistic and wild sides and find innovative solutions to everyday challenges. In the distinct darkness of this color, we find an illuminating guiding beacon, a symbol of harmonious blends of recycling, meditation, and creativity, fostering a future that harmonizes with nature and empowers individuals to reach their fullest potential.

CMG 2025+ European Key Color – Essence

Essence is an enigmatic medium chroma indigo blue that embodies a perfect balance between brightness and chromaticness.

This mesmerizing color holds an irresistible allure, captivating the senses with its subtle yet powerful presence. Its vibrant red spectrum serves as a nostalgic bridge, evoking vivid and mesmerizing memories of times past while foreshadowing the boundless possibilities of the future.

The meticulous selection of this color as the Key Color for 2025+ stems from its ability to represent the vast array of captivating blues that are anticipated to shape the design landscape in the coming years. As an emblem of purity and strength, this hue, aptly named Essence, encapsulates the very essence of progress and resilience. It serves as an inspirational catalyst, urging us to forge ahead with unwavering faith and tranquil composure in the face of challenges.

Essence symbolizes a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to embracing the present moment. It encourages us to cherish the here and now, recognizing that it is in the present where our greatest potential lies. With open hearts and minds, we are called to embark on a journey of exploration and growth, guided by the spirit of Essence, a color that resonates with the zeitgeist of 2025 and beyond.

CMG 2025+ Latin American Key Color – Feel Real

Feel Real is a low chroma red with subtle hints of yellow that represents the juxtaposition between the human element and technology. It symbolizes our acceptance of our true selves despite our vulnerabilities, mistakes, and the ever-changing circumstances we face.

Derived from the evolution of more vibrant red tones forecasted in recent years, Feel Real exhibits a dusty warmth reminiscent of various hues such as pink, red, brown, and yellow, reminding us of the artistry found in handcrafted clay objects like ceramics and bricks. Its inherent desire to embody authenticity makes it an ideal color for a multicultural society.

Feel Real transcends individual boundaries and embraces all backgrounds and age groups, encapsulating the essence of humanity and reflecting the diverse facets of society, including aspects like recyclability and technology.

It fosters a sense of empathetic understanding towards the realities intertwined with technological advancements, inviting us to find solace and compassion within this complex landscape.

CMG 2025+ North American Key Color – Forever-green

A powerful and timeless color, Forever-green emerges as a defining Key Color. A deep green with a modicum of yellow, this near-black hue holds a classic, mystical charm that captivates the heart.

Drawing inspiration from the natural world and the delicate dance between life and renewal, Forever-green recounts a lifelong tale of harmony and balance. Rooted in the mineral-rich deposits of leftover waste materials, Forever-green symbolizes the readiness for new life to emerge—a testament to resilience and the regenerative power within the fabric of existence.

As the global zeitgeist shifted towards embracing sustainability and environmental consciousness, Forever-green emerges as an emblem of promise and transformation, a symbol of unity and cooperation, recognizing that harmony with nature is essential for the prosperity of future generations.

With its sense of earthy elegance and forever optimism, Forever-green mirrors the beauty of the natural world, illuminating a path towards a brighter and greener future.

Not bound by fleeting trends or passing fads, Forever-green is part of our natural tapestry, a profound expression of the human spirit and the promise of renewal.

CMG’s Key Color Selection Process

Four global regions, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America, each identify their Key Color from their 16 forecasted colors. The choice is made based on the color direction of the Forecast, the importance of the color family to the Forecast, the significance of the specific color to the color direction, and how the color best represents the Color Stories or the general mood of the stories.

Before the final choice is made, various colors are shortlisted by the Steering Committee. The shortlist is based on various parameters, which may include one or more of the following:

  1. The number of times a color was submitted by participants during a ChromaZone®. Sometimes, it’s not the exact color that is submitted various times, but variations of it.
  2. The color was selected as a ChromaZone Story Key Color or ChromaZone Key Color.
  3. The most predominant color family in the Forecast. This is based on the number of colors within a color family.
  4. The most unexpected color in the Forecast, but closely related and representative of the general mood of the Color Stories.

Shortlisted colors are discussed one by one with an explanation of what they signify and symbolize, and why they will be important to represent the forecast. Following discussions, the committee votes on the colors until one color ends up with the most votes.
