Member Spotlight Tom Hreniuk

Our Member Spotlight is on Tom Hreniuk, the Creative Development Manager for Mohawk Industries, Residential Resilient.  Tom is responsible for creating designs. He ensures that the creative vision and the look of the materials are transplanted into the final product, sacrificing as little as possible and creating new innovative products. From a design perspective, color and design are at the forefront of his daily activities. For color, he is involved on the technical side for each step in the development and manufacturing process. This means that he needs to know the changes that happen to color but also stay current on color trends.

How do CMG’s Forecast and color information help you within your position?

The most beneficial part about the CMG Forecast is the collaborative aspect. Knowing how other industries are forecasting and how this affects our arena gives a better insight for future colors. Only viewing what’s within your own industry causes tunnel vision and you miss the outside influences.”

How do you apply the color forecasts to your product development cycle?

“We include the color forecasts into our trend sessions at least once a year. Also, we take a quick peek at the forecasts before any major launches to make sure we are on the right track.”

Share with us a color design project that you worked on where the right color made all the difference?

I think the toughest thing for color development is when you have that large customer project and you are awarded business with only one or two SKUs. Of course they are the ones who usually have the customer base with a certain demographic so your colors have to be spot on. The colors have to be trendy for longevity but still have to be geared for that certain customer. When you hit it, you hit big.
