The strength of a thread.
Much as the arachnid knows, there is incredible power in the strength of its deceptively simple silk thread. The color, Silk Thread, emanating from color workshops in North America, emerges with a sense of power. Originally discussed in 2017, to begin appearing in 2019, this pale-yellow infused beige knows its inner strength.
The quiet power evoked by Silk Thread is soothing and contemplative. It is a color of peaceful feelings and offers a respite from a complicated world. It is a bit complex, its yellow undertone, with the slightest influence of red, creating a forward moving hue that is outwardly simple and classic, and offers more beyond a first glance.
Certainly not boring beige, nor pure white, its pale value and low chromaticity give it a different edge. This is a forerunner of more neutral hues to come. Silk Thread is a platform on which to build design. It has the power of a solid foundation, and the lightness to not be too serious. That balance is the core of its strength.
As a subtle hue that speaks to quiet moments of reflection, it is ideal in the designed environment, whether residential or commercial. It offers a new take on neutral as Silk Thread does not fade away into the background. With the power to warm and comfort, this is a direction away from cool, monastic hues, and will be found both interior and exterior as backgrounds as well as taking center stage with mixed textures and finishes.
Fashion has already begun to spin Silk Thread in myriad ways in everything from wool coats, to cotton dresses, leather accessories and men’s suiting. It is poised and direct on its own, yet can be a supporting color for other hues. It is the confidence of this “beige” that gives it its strength.
Though we may sometimes feel as though we’re hanging by a thread, the strength of Silk Thread will carry us through.

Quiet Power, Big Strength
The quiet power evoked by Silk Thread is soothing and contemplative. It is a hue that complements other colors with a knowing presence. Its yellow undertone, with the slightest influence of red, creates a forward moving hue that is outwardly simple and classic, and offers more beyond the first glance.
Confident to stand on its own, Silk Thread is also confident enough to be a supportive color. It creates moments of lightness when combined with deeper colors such as charcoal, dark red, and navy. Silk Thread retains its natural roots as it coordinates with olive, grey, yellow, and cocoa. The pale value also creates a moment of Silk Thread led pastel when it is combined with gentle colors of pale blue, lilac, and blush pink.
Color alone is just the beginning. Silk Thread will add to its strength in metallic effects, both matte and gloss sheens, and take on depths in wool and flannel. Of course, true to its name, it will shimmer in the quite sheen of silk. It is adaptable and modern for designing and living.
In 2019, Silk Thread is the new power color.
